Like a nerd, that I am, I really hate the mouse to do stuff, specialy when I'm writing stuff, it breaks the flow. It is clear that an IDE like Netbeans, or Eclipse, is awesome for programming, it has a better auto complete, generates code and documentation, and many more. But you're more underground, you'll be more into something like vim.
Anyway, vim's configuration file is, I belive always, not sure, in ~/.vimrc, here you can edit proprieties. I've been around it today and found this very usefull.
